This blog is about issues in Higher Education. I teach a class about applying psychology to education, and am concerned about the lack of evidence in so many of the things done in education. In fact, I despair at the number of times I read something along the lines of “even though the evidence clearly shows that XXX has no effect, the use of XXX is considered best practise in the field”. If the evidence says there is no effect, why do it, and in many cases, the evidence clearly shows a detrimental effect, but it is still best practise to engage in the behaviour. Why, Why Why?
